Ok, ok…here’s some SketchUp Tutorials
Wow…did I strike a chord. Lots of email and it can all be pretty much summarized by the question “Where are the friggin’ SketchUp Tutorials?”
When I did a search on “SketchUp tutorial” I found piles of them scattered around the Internet but I admit that it’s hard for a non-computer users to decide what’s basic and what is not.
So, in an attempt to get beginners running down the SketchUp yellow-brick road, Here are 4 short, easy tutorials from Google. These step you through the very basic attributes of SketchUp. They cover half a dozen or so of the basic tools of SketchUp. If you have SketchUp on your system, and download these 4 tutorials, it’ll take you 15-20 minutes to go through them and in the end you will have built a basic house with a deck. More important you should be off and running. What these DON’T do for you is show you how to work to specific dimensions. I’ll cover that in the upcoming tutorial I promised.
I do think it’s worth it for miniaturists to become familiar with this program as it’s so nice to be able to quickly draw some possibilities. Last night, my daughter wanted to rearrange her room. I’m still stumbling around in SketchUp but this is what we came up with in a matter of a few minutes during the commercials as she watched American Idol (grin). All we did was set the room dimensions and then do a couple rearrangements of the furniture, representing them as boxes. Still, it was useful to her to see how things were arranged.
Imagine doing this when brainstorming your next roombox.
