Valentine’s Day
I’m a curmugeon. I admit it. Holidays like Valentine’s Day, the ones manufacturered by the marketeers, make me grumpy. Hallmark and the flowers industry have done their best to make us believe that spending a bunch of money on not much is the way to show love for the people around us. And these marketeers are really good at their trade as people spend $14 Billion on “stuff”, most of which won’t exist in a week. They’ve converted what was the celebration of the execution of St. Valentine into a commercial boost between New Years and Easter. My view is that we should all be smarter than to allow this sort of manipulation.
But, I do have two people that I love very much. And so, rather than spending a couple minutes buying an expensive piece of paper, I spent some time in my shop creating “valentines.” These are those valentines. They seemed to like them and the candy… of course.
Happy Valentine’s Day
Cheers — Larry
