Did you know that you can easily cut 3D objects on your scroll saw? Wanna know how? If so, you’ve come to the right place. I’m going to describe how to build a simple jig to hold a piece as you cut the 3D object and we’re going to cut a cabriole leg. We could [...]

I don’t know about you but I just love novel creation ideas, regardless of form or function. Here’s one I thought miniaturists might like. Go here to see what’s inside.

Woodworking magazine has just posted some more incredible photos of David Brookshaw’s miniature workshop. I thought some of you might want to go take a look. The post is called “Welcome to the Shop (Watch yer Head!).”

Today is a good day. I have a new toy. Woodcraft put their woodthreading tool on sale. Now we don’t have Woodcraft in Canada and while Woodcraft has “special” shipping arrangements for those of us in Canada, those arrangements pretty much require that you pay for your items twice.
But Pat Roberson has become my “connection” [...]

A rearrangement of my shop gave me some more space but also created some dark areas as machines were moved to areas that were less than optimally lighted. As a result, one of the things I’ve been doing lately is hanging flourescent fixtures, lots of flourescent fixtures.
I love ‘em and I now have lots of [...]

I’m one of those guys who, if you give him a straight edge and pencil, can draw a line. Give me a square and I can draw lines 90-degrees to one another. I’m really good with circle templates. But ask me to draw a picture and the result is something unrecognizable.
And so it was that [...]

I hang out in the cosmetics departments, don’t you? It’s a great place to find tools for creating miniatures. Lots of sanding, cutting, holding stuff. The things women do to themselves are often better suited to woodworking in my estimation (grin).
And I’ve used cosmetic sponges for applying pastels and some paints. I’ve also tried several [...]

This is a photo of a Native American flute that I made. If you wanted to learn how to play it, would you assume that you’d have to learn about how it works? Would you assume that to entertain yourself and your friends with the instrument that you’d have to spend some time practicing?
What about [...]

Sometimes great and useful things are simple, cost very little, and are easy to use. One example is a hard block of wax. Some like beeswax. I prefer paraffin, the cheap stuff you can buy in a grocery store for sealing jams and jellies.
The white block in this photo is just such a block and [...]

Every time I pick up a new copy of Woodworking Magazine I have the same feeling. I can’t help it. The magazine is so thin…a mere 32 pages. As a quarterly, that means my subscription cost of $20, or to be precise, $19.96 gets me only 128 pages of magazine. Many monthly magazines have that [...]
